Construction of traditional frames with special aluminum profiles for Theatre Cedar Rapids in the state of Iowa (USA).

 

The climate in the state of Iowa is characterized as humid continental, with extreme temperature fluctuations. The winter season is particularly cold and is accompanied by frequent snowfalls. In fact, it has been observed that the average temperature during the winter may even reach -28°C. The spring season is characterized by severe weather. In particular, in this specific period Iowa is affected by 50 days of storms annually, on average. Moreover, summer in the state of Iowa is known for its high temperatures that exceed 32°C, as well as for the high humidity levels. In addition, the level of rainfall is characterized as seasonal, with more rain occurring during the summer season. Our specific client is Theatre Cedar Rapids, a historic theatre in the area. It is located in the center of the city of Cedar Rapids and, because of the cultural value of the building, EPAL wanted to preserve its historic character. Furthermore, we constructed special aluminum profile dies to be used exclusively in this project, to ensure harmony with the building’s traditional appearance.

Due to the weather conditions prevailing in the area, EPAL constructed and installed aluminum frames from the EPAL 18000 Ultra K range. We also used Roto NT mechanisms by Roto Frank and Dark Bronze 40 D2000 electrostatic powder coating by Akzo Nobel. This combination allows the consumer to enjoy increased levels of security, quality and functionality. In particular, the users of the buildings can benefit from the advantages offered by this specific EPAL range, indicatively:

  • High level of thermal insulation, as the EPAL 18000 Ultra Krange allows the construction of frames with excellent thermal insulation characteristics and Uw = 0.87 W/m2K.
  • It has a profile with a double thermal break. Specifically, two polyurethane thermal breaks surround a 30mm PVC thermal break in the center of the profile.
  • Superior resistance to mechanical stress during use and very good functionality.
  • It offers a perimetric locking mechanism, where a simple turn of the handle can lock windows and balcony doors at up to 14 points, thus providing the highest level of security on the market.
  • There are 2 perimetric gaskets made of TPE, offering perfect sealing.
  • They provide a particularly high level of watertightness, air permeability and airtightness.
  • They offer superior sound insulation with Rw = 38 dB.
  • Superior aesthetics, modern design with a wide range of colors and high quality electrostatic powder coating.
